Lead Artist - 10 months contract

THE ROLE

We are looking for a talented Lead Artist lead on a freelance or project basis, sitting in Stockholm during the parental leave of one of our epic co-workers.

In this role, you will be motivating and leading a team of talented artists in delivering high-quality assets for our games. Technical and managerial skills are very important. You should be able to anticipate and find solutions on a team and production level to better help the team to deliver the highest possible quality assets for 3D, animations, concept art, and UI.

Strengths in texturing and visual effects are highly sought after, plus a background in Unity or similar game development platforms is highly desired.

The ideal candidate is passionate about mobile games and has great creative skills when it comes to thinking outside the box. You are comfortable taking initiative, love solving problems and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment. Great communication between other leads/artists/developers/designers is key in this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will be leading and working with a team of artists to create game art (concept, 2D, 3D, UI, animations, FXs) for our games which are developed in Unity.
  • Providing regular review and feedback on the teams work in a clear and constructive manner
  • You will spend most of your time leading an art team with tasks such as planning, creating and reviewing tasks. In its essence, helping others in their work.
  • When not doing that, then you’ll spend your time helping out with modeling/texturing, creating principle art, setting up workflows and art pipeline.
  • You will present and defend your design decisions. All your design decisions should be based on the overall design roadmap as well as your own design thinking and fundamental principles (i.e. color theory, visual weight, etc.)
  • You will continually keep yourself and your design team updated with the latest changes in your industry’s standards.
  • You will strive to be a great team player with the ability to collaborate closely with developers and designers.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of experience in games development.
  • Has worked on more than three complete projects.
  • Able to work in a large range of art styles.
  • Can review your others work based on initial specifications
  • Able to work independently and to produce high-quality results
  • Able to communicate visually, and to identify and define visual design issues and solutions.
  • Excellent design skills, including the effective use of color, form, lighting, and composition.
  • Expert 3D skills in Maya and/or MAX.
  • A clear understanding of cameras, lighting, and shaders in Unity.
  • Proficient in ZBrush.
  • Able to create both organic and rigid model.
  • Expert texture skills from Substance/Photoshop/Ddo.
  • Expert knowledge of UV-mapping techniques.
  • Strong polygon optimization skills.
  • Strong problem-solving methodology.
  • Proficient in Unity and knows by heart how to implement your own work into the game.
  • Strong portfolio to be presented and explained during the interview process.
